The gov­ern­ment is step­ping up its ef­forts and ex­plor­ing vac­ci­na­tion op­tions amid grow­ing glob­al con­cerns over mon­key­pox in­fec­tions.

Re­spond­ing to ques­tions in par­lia­ment on Mon­day, Health Min­is­ter Ter­rence Deyals­ingh said meet­ings have been con­vened to dis­cuss how to iden­ti­fy and treat the dis­ease.

Ac­cord­ing to him, in­clud­ed among the mit­i­ga­tion mea­sures im­ple­ment­ed so far was the plac­ing of port health on high alert for screen­ing and the alert­ing of RHA physi­cians to di­ag­nose and treat with mon­key­pox

He added that fur­ther strate­gies were al­so be­ing con­sid­ered

“We are proac­tive­ly reach­ing out to our lo­cal and proac­tive part­ners to ac­quire the vac­ci­na­tion jynom­mos, the vac­ci­na­tion strat­e­gy at this point in time, if we get the vac­cines, is not a na­tion­al vac­ci­na­tion dri­ve like covid.”

Min­ster Deyals­ingh said he was hope­ful that test­ing for the dis­ease would be ramped up here at home and across the re­gions through the Caribbean Pub­lic Health Agency
